Residents
of quiet New Jersey shore community Pelican Island are still rebuilding
after last fall's devastating Hurricane Sandy.
Now, they don't want another natural disaster coming through their town — Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi.
Rumors are swirling that the MTV
reality star wants to vacation in the town, near Seaside Heights, to
film the third season of her show "Snooki and JWoww." But Pelican Island
homeowners are trying to find a way to block that from happening.
The former "Jersey Shore" star, meanwhile, is angry that Pelican Islanders are trying to prevent her and son Lorenzo's beach vacation.
"Unable how adults are trying to ban my son, fiancé and I from enjoying our summer at the shore," Polizzi wrote on Instagram.
"Grow up, get over yourself and move on. This is not how we should be treating one another. Absolutely sick and very sad. I pray for you. There's much bigger things to worry about in life than trying to ban my family from your neighborhood."
This isn't the first time local
residents have tried to prevent Snooki and her "Jersey Shore" castmates
from "invading" their area. Several New Jersey towns have already closed their doors to the show and its spinoffs. Hoboken mayor Dawn Zimmer also declined to approve filming permits, citing the "public safety problems" involved.
And the mayor of Florence, Italy banned MTV from filming in city landmarks like the Uffizi Gardens, and prohibited the cast from drinking on camera (a nearly impossible feat).
Then again, Snooki's presence can
mean big bucks for the towns they film in. Seaside Heights, which had
previously hosted both "Jersey Shore" and "Snooki and JWoww," is facing a drop-off in revenue. One local businessman called Sandy and losing the shows "a double hurricane."
